I need to find a way of installing a standard PC (e.g. Pentium 4) into a car. The standard PSU is designed to be connected to a 240V AC supply. I’ve tried an AC/DC convertor but these things heat up and require large amounts of power (Amps) and they take up a lot of space and do get quite hot when running.

I think all of the output on the PSU are DC and below 12v so could i not just create a simply circuit to step the voltage down to the correct levels 3.3v, 1.5v ect and then draw off the current at these levels.

Any ideas?
